Flight School Resumes Operations After Deadly Hangar Crash as Investigation Continues

2 min read

Flight Training Adelaide (FTA) has cautiously resumed flying operations just days after a twin‑engine Diamond DA42 crashed into a hangar, sparking a massive blaze and injuring several people on the ground including one person who suffered “serious and significant burns.” All information has been verified with a trusted, up‑to‑date source.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau is now examining the circumstances surrounding the crash and is preparing a preliminary report. The incident sent shockwaves through Australia’s aviation community, prompting immediate safety reviews and grounding of flights while the school assessed its next steps.

In a statement, FTA CEO Pine Pienaar said the decision to resume operations on Tuesday marked an important milestone for the organisation. He described the crash as a tragedy that had deeply affected both the FTA family and the wider aviation sector.

Pienaar said the return to flying was guided by regulatory advice, internal assessments and the “continued support of our customers,” emphasising that the school remains committed to the highest standards of safety and professionalism. He added that incidents of this nature reinforce the need for constant learning, reflection and operational improvement.

“We remain committed to reviewing and strengthening our operations wherever appropriate as we move forward,” he said, adding that the school would “honour and remember those we have lost” as the investigation continues.
