Bangladesh reported six more dengue-related deaths in the 24 hours leading up to Tuesday morning, bringing the total number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease to 239 this year.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 1,942 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals during the same period, raising the total number of confirmed cases nationwide to 77,672 in 2026.
Among the latest fatalities were two men and four women. Three deaths were reported in Rajshahi Division, while one death each was recorded in Dhaka Division, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC)
The latest hospital admissions were reported across the country, including:
213 patients in Barishal Division
301 patients in Chattogram Division
378 patients in Dhaka Division
178 patients under DNCC
229 patients under DSCC
264 patients in Khulna Division
120 patients in Mymensingh Division
197 patients in Rajshahi Division
56 patients in Rangpur Division
6 patients in Sylhet Division
DGHS data shows that women account for 52.9 percent of dengue-related deaths this year, while men account for 47.1 percent. However, infection rates have been higher among men, who represent 62.3 percent of reported cases, compared with 37.7 percent among women.
The latest figures come as Bangladesh continues to battle recurring dengue outbreaks. Official statistics show the country recorded 102,861 dengue cases and 413 deaths in 2025.
In 2024, health authorities reported 101,214 infections and 575 deaths from the disease.
The country’s most severe dengue outbreak on record occurred in 2023, when 321,179 people were hospitalised and 1,705 deaths were reported nationwide.
Health officials continue to urge the public to take preventive measures, including eliminating stagnant water where Aedes mosquitoes breed and seeking medical attention promptly if dengue symptoms develop.
