Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called for national unity to protect the rights of the people and ensure that Bangladesh never falls under foreign domination, stressing that every generation carries the responsibility of preserving the spirit of independence.
Speaking at a special display programme held at the Army Stadium in Banani, Dhaka, on Saturday to mark National Revolution and Solidarity Day, the Prime Minister urged citizens to remain united in defense of the country’s sovereignty and democratic values.
“Let this be our main pledge on this 7 November that no one will ever again be able to take away the rights of the country and its people or turn Bangladesh into a subservient state,” he said.
Tarique Rahman emphasized that national unity is essential to achieving that goal and called on the nation to uphold the spirit of the historic 7 November Revolution, taking into consideration Bangladesh’s socio-economic, geographical, and political realities.
Referring to several landmark events in the country’s history, including the 7 November Revolution of 1975, the anti-autocracy movement of 1990, and the mass uprising against fascism in 2024, he said the people of Bangladesh, particularly the younger generation, have repeatedly demonstrated their commitment to the nation’s interests during times of crisis.
The Prime Minister noted that while achieving independence was a proud chapter in Bangladesh’s history, preserving its dignity and ensuring its true meaning remains a continuing responsibility for each new generation.
“Winning independence is a matter of great historical pride, but protecting its honour and making it meaningful is the duty of every generation, especially the youth,” he said.
He highlighted the role of young people in shaping the nation’s future and encouraged them to remain committed to democratic principles, national unity, and the protection of Bangladesh’s sovereignty.
The programme formed part of the nationwide observance of National Revolution and Solidarity Day, commemorating one of the most significant events in Bangladesh’s political history.
