Russian Drone Strikes Target Key Kyiv Bridges for Fourth Consecutive Day

Russia has intensified its campaign against critical infrastructure in Ukraine’s capital, launching drone strikes on major bridges in Kyiv for a fourth consecutive day and causing disruption to transport across the city.

The latest attack occurred on Sunday when the Pivnichnyi (Northern) Bridge was struck for the second straight day. Ukrainian officials said two people were injured in the strike. Earlier in the week, the Pivdennyi (Southern) Bridge was also hit multiple times as part of the ongoing assault.

The attacks coincided with a surprise visit to Kyiv by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who travelled to Ukraine to demonstrate support as the country continues to resist Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Residents have described lengthy delays and severe travel difficulties as authorities work to manage the impacts of the strikes.

“To get from the left bank to the right one and back, it’s just hell,” one Kyiv resident told reporters.

With large numbers of people crossing the river each day, particularly during peak commuting periods, officials are working urgently to maintain connectivity while repairs continue.

Repair crews have already been deployed to damaged sections of the bridges, and local authorities are exploring temporary solutions including pontoon bridges, expanded ferry services, and even proposals for a future tunnel beneath the Dnipro River to improve resilience against future attacks.

The attacks form part of Russia’s broader strategy of targeting infrastructure across Ukraine, including energy facilities, transport routes, and logistics hubs. Ukrainian officials argue that such strikes are intended to disrupt daily life and place additional pressure on civilians as the conflict continues.

Despite the repeated attacks, Kyiv authorities have vowed to keep essential transport links operational while accelerating repairs and strengthening infrastructure protection measures.
