PM Returns Home After UN Visit Focused on Bangladesh’s Global Priorities

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has departed New York for Bangladesh after completing a five-day visit to the United Nations, during which he participated in a series of high-level meetings and delivered his first address to the General Debate of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

According to Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Saleh Shibly, an Emirates flight carrying the prime minister, his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman, and members of the delegation left John F. Kennedy International Airport at 11:30pm local time on Friday, travelling to Dhaka via Dubai.

The flight is scheduled to arrive in Dubai before continuing to Bangladesh, with the prime minister expected to reach Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on September 27.

During the visit, Rahman represented Bangladesh at a number of UN events and diplomatic engagements, using the global platform to outline the country’s priorities and positions on major international issues.

In his address to the UN General Assembly, the prime minister highlighted Bangladesh’s views on global peace and security, climate change, sustainable development, economic cooperation, and humanitarian challenges. He also drew attention to the ongoing Rohingya crisis, calling for greater international support toward achieving a durable solution through the safe and voluntary return of displaced Rohingyas to Myanmar.

The visit included meetings with world leaders, diplomats, and international partners on issues affecting Bangladesh and the wider international community. Discussions covered topics ranging from development cooperation and climate resilience to regional stability and global economic challenges.

Government officials described the visit as an opportunity to present Bangladesh’s policies, priorities, and development aspirations to the international community while strengthening diplomatic ties with global partners.

The UN General Assembly gathers leaders from around the world each year to debate pressing international issues and explore avenues for cooperation on matters including peace, development, climate action, and humanitarian assistance.
