Amazon Australia to Hire 3,000 Seasonal Workers With Pay Starting at $35 an Hour

Amazon Australia is ramping up its workforce ahead of the busy holiday shopping season, announcing plans to hire 3,000 seasonal employees across the country to help meet increased customer demand.

The temporary roles will focus on picking, packing, and shipping customer orders, ensuring deliveries reach customers on time during one of the busiest periods of the year. Hourly pay for these positions is understood to start at $35, making them an attractive opportunity for job seekers looking for short-term employment.

Amazon Australia’s Senior HR Manager, Michelle Theophilou, said the company is seeking enthusiastic individuals interested in gaining work experience, learning new skills, and potentially building a long-term career with the global e-commerce giant.

According to Theophilou, no previous experience is required for the roles, as all successful applicants will receive on-the-job training. She said the positions are particularly well suited to university students seeking income during study breaks, retirees looking to remain active and engaged, and other job seekers interested in flexible employment opportunities.
Amazon also highlighted that seasonal positions can serve as a pathway to permanent employment within the company. The retailer pointed to the experience of employee Dalma Cabrera, who joined Amazon as a seasonal worker in September 2022 before later securing a permanent role as a Learning Ambassador.

Cabrera said she was impressed by the company’s organized operations and the integration of people and technology. She credited the training and support she received for helping her develop professionally and eventually transition into a full-time position. Today, she helps train and support new employees as they begin their careers with Amazon.

The majority of the new positions will be based in New South Wales, where Amazon plans to fill approximately 1,900 roles. Victoria will receive around 600 positions, while Queensland will offer 300 jobs and Western Australia will have close to 200 vacancies available.

The recruitment drive reflects the continued growth of online shopping and Amazon’s efforts to strengthen its logistics network during peak demand periods. For many workers, the seasonal hiring campaign could provide both immediate earnings and a potential pathway to future career opportunities within the company.
