Cummins Hails Australia’s Ruthless Response After Innings Victory Levels Bangladesh Test Series

2 min read

Australia captain Pat Cummins says his team “all looked sharp” during their crushing innings‑and‑51‑run win over Bangladesh in Mackay on Sunday a dominant performance that wiped away the frustration of last week’s shock defeat in Darwin.

The hosts, stunned by a nine‑wicket loss in their first red‑ball match since the Ashes triumph in January, produced a blistering turnaround. Cummins praised the early breakthrough that set the tone: “I don’t think we can expect to get six for 20, or whatever we had, every match. But it was a great start and we didn’t really let up after that.”

He said the team needed a strong response after the Darwin upset. “A lot of things went right these couple of days, and a lot of things went wrong last week. We needed to bounce and it was a great couple of days for the lads.”

The two‑Test series marks the beginning of an intense stretch for Australia up to 21 Tests in 12 months, including heavyweight clashes against South Africa, New Zealand, and India. The team hopes the run will culminate in a return to the World Test Championship final, followed by another blockbuster Ashes showdown in England.

Australia’s dominant win in Mackay has restored momentum at a crucial moment, setting the stage for a decisive finish to the series and a demanding year ahead.
