Imran Khan Returned to Jail After Court‑Ordered Hospital Visit as Supporters Rally Outside Clinic

Former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan was moved back to Adiala Jail early Friday, only hours after being taken to a private hospital in Islamabad for Supreme Court‑ordered medical examinations.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said a team of doctors had declared the 73‑year‑old medically fit following checks at Shifa International Hospital, after which authorities transferred him back to prison. Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek‑e‑Insaf (PTI) party confirmed the court’s directive had been fully complied with.

Khan was escorted to the hospital under heavy security, with hundreds of police deployed and roads cordoned off. Dozens of supporters gathered outside, some throwing red flower petals at passing vehicles in a show of solidarity.

“I came to support the man who has made so many sacrifices for Pakistan,” said 69‑year‑old Younus Qureshi. Another supporter, Bilal, 52, said he hoped Khan would receive proper medical care, adding: “Our love and affiliation will remain with Mr Khan.”

Khan’s lawyers petitioned the Supreme Court earlier this week, arguing he was in poor health and required a full medical assessment. The court ordered his hospitalisation within two days. Khan previously received eye treatment earlier this year, with his family saying he had lost most of the vision in his right eye.

PTI spokesman Zulfi Bukhari confirmed Khan’s arrival at the hospital, while former president Arif Alvi wrote on X that the country was “happy and dancing with joy” at the court’s intervention.

Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were sentenced late last year to 17 years in prison on corruption and related charges. Khan, who has been jailed since 2023, maintains the cases are politically motivated.
