Fire Destroys Part of Former Nathan Tinkler Mansion in Coffs Harbour, Blaze Treated as Suspicious

A fire has torn through part of a multi‑million‑dollar mansion on the NSW Mid North Coast once owned by mining magnate Nathan Tinkler leaving Coffs Harbour’s most expensive home badly damaged just weeks after it was approved for demolition.

Fire and Rescue NSW crews were called to the vacant headland property at 5:40pm on Tuesday, where they found a small section of the building alight. Station officer Scott O’Shea said firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze and left about three hours later. But they were forced to return when the fire reignited.

NSW Police later described the two call‑outs as “a single incident, with what appears to be a self‑reignition,” adding that the abandoned property is now being treated as suspicious. Investigators are urging anyone with information or footage to contact CrimeStoppers.

The mansion, long regarded as one of the region’s most valuable homes, had been sitting empty ahead of its planned demolition a detail that now forms part of the police investigation.
