Dhaka is moving toward a fully automated traffic enforcement system, with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) announcing that digital case filing will be operational across the capital within the next six months. The initiative aims to restore order on the city’s congested roads and significantly reduce the need for manual case filing by traffic sergeants and inspectors.
Speaking at the inauguration of a new solar‑powered traffic signal light at the Airport intersection, Acting DMP Commissioner Md. Sarwar said the automated system will detect violations anywhere in the city and issue cases instantly. Once active, the technology will streamline enforcement and help curb widespread breaches of traffic and motor transport laws.
Sarwar also noted that the city corporation has recently installed new signal lights at seven major intersections, stretching from Jahangir Gate to the InterContinental Hotel, as part of broader efforts to modernise Dhaka’s traffic management.
The DMP believes the automated system will mark a major shift in how the capital handles road discipline, reducing human error and improving compliance across one of the world’s most congested urban centres.
