Indonesia Seeks Stronger Saudi Presence at Major Trade Events in Jakarta

Indonesia is pushing to deepen its fast‑growing trade relationship with Saudi Arabia, inviting Saudi businesses to take part in two of Jakarta’s biggest commercial showcases later this year as the Southeast Asian nation works to expand its global economic footprint.

Non‑oil trade between the two countries has climbed steadily, reaching more than $3.9 billion in 2025, a 12 percent rise from 2021. With momentum building, Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade has urged Saudi companies to attend the 2026 Halal Indonesia International Industry Expo and Trade Expo Indonesia, both set to take place in Jakarta.

“We invite all members of the Riyadh Chamber to participate and link up with Indonesian businesses,” said Zulvri Yenni, trade attaché at the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh. “Halal Indo 2026 and TEI 2026 are strategic platforms to strengthen and expand business networks between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.”

Saudi Arabia has become a key target market for Indonesia’s expanding industries, from halal products to modest fashion, with officials highlighting new opportunities emerging under the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 transformation plan. Last month, Indonesia’s trade ministry encouraged local exporters to increase their presence in Saudi Arabia, particularly in consumer goods.

Saudi interest is also growing. Mansour Al‑Ajmi, director of international cooperation at the Riyadh Chamber, said Saudi business missions are eyeing Indonesia alongside Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. “We are ready to support and promote Indonesia’s trade events so that potential buyers can attend and make their purchases,” he said.

Indonesia’s flagship Trade Expo continues to draw global attention. In 2025, it recorded nearly $23 billion in deals and welcomed more than 34,000 visitors, including over 8,000 international buyers from 131 countries.

A 2025 survey by the Jakarta‑based Center of Economic and Law Studies found that 58 percent of respondents believe Indonesia should strengthen economic ties with Middle Eastern nations — a sentiment now reflected in Jakarta’s increasingly active outreach to Riyadh.
