Liberal leader Angus Taylor is set to unveil a sweeping migration policy today, including plans to deport 65,000 people currently overstaying their visas in Australia.
According to the Opposition, the proposal includes establishing an ICE‑style enforcement taskforce dedicated to identifying, locating and removing visa overstayers. The package also introduces a “safe country list” to fast‑track protection visa decisions, along with tougher screening measures for new applicants.
The Liberal Party says the policy aims to put Australian values at the centre of immigration decisions. As part of this, authorities would review applicants’ social media activity to identify potential extremists before visas are granted.
The announcement comes as migration and border security continue to dominate national political debate, with both major parties under pressure to tighten controls while maintaining humanitarian commitments.
