A man is in a serious condition after being shot in the chest by police during an early‑morning incident in Hobart’s northern suburbs.
Police said officers were called to a property in Goodwood shortly after 4:30am following a request for assistance. According to authorities, the situation escalated just before 6am, when the man allegedly confronted officers outside the home.
Investigators said the man was “acting in a threatening manner toward police,” prompting officers to fire their weapons. He was struck once in the chest.
Officers provided immediate first aid before paramedics transported him to the Royal Hobart Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
Police confirmed the man was alone at the property and no other individuals were injured.
Southern District Commander said the incident would undergo a full investigation.
“This is a significant and serious event, and it will be examined thoroughly,” he said.
