One Nation Claims Fourth Seat in South Australia After Tight Recount

2 min read

One Nation has secured a fourth seat in South Australia’s House of Assembly, with candidate Chantelle Thomas officially winning the electorate of Narungga on the Yorke Peninsula after a razor‑thin recount.

The final margin just 58 votes over Liberal contender Tania Stock makes it one of the closest results of the state election.

Thomas will now join three other One Nation MPs in the lower house, marking a significant expansion of the party’s presence in South Australian politics.

Despite the gain, the Liberal Party will retain its position as the state’s official opposition after securing five seats in the election held nearly two weeks ago.

Narungga had been the final undecided electorate, with the result confirmed on Thursday afternoon. According to her profile on the One Nation website, Thomas is a mother of three from Kadina who has worked as a photographer, make‑up artist and a counsellor with Lifeline.

She has campaigned on giving her community “a strong voice” and making the region an even better place to live and raise a family.

After being declared the elected member, Thomas thanked her supporters and acknowledged the electoral staff who conducted the recount, bringing an end to one of the most closely watched contests of the election.
