Canada Condemns Israeli Plan to Occupy Southern Lebanon, Citing Violation of Sovereignty

1 min read

Canada’s foreign ministry has sharply criticised Israel’s stated plans to occupy southern Lebanon up to the Litani River, warning that Lebanon’s “sovereignty & territorial integrity must not be violated.” The statement was issued Tuesday in a post on X, marking one of Ottawa’s strongest public rebukes since the latest escalation along the Israel Lebanon border.

The condemnation comes amid heightened regional tensions and growing international concern over Israel’s intention to establish what it calls a “security zone” inside Lebanese territory. The proposed move has drawn warnings from global leaders and humanitarian organisations, who fear it could trigger a wider conflict and worsen an already severe displacement crisis.

Canada’s message aligns with broader calls for restraint and respect for international law as fighting between Israel and Hezbollah intensifies.
