More than 30 US troops have been hospitalised with injuries sustained in Iranian drone and missile attacks across the Middle East since the war began on 28 February, according to a CBS report published Wednesday.
The injured soldiers are suffering from brain trauma, burns and shrapnel wounds, and at least one service member faces amputation, with doctors confirming that one of his legs must be removed.
Of the 38 injured troops, 13 have been evacuated to the United States.
According to CBS, the breakdown of hospitalised personnel is as follows:
1 at Brooke Army Medical Center in Texas
12 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center near Washington
25 receiving treatment at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany
The Pentagon said in a statement that at least five of the injured troops are in serious condition.
Kuwait Bases Among Frequent Targets
Iran began launching repeated drone and missile attacks on US military installations across the Middle East including those in Kuwait immediately after the war erupted. While most incoming projectiles were intercepted, several managed to get through.
Key US facilities in Kuwait include:
Camp Arifjan, the forward headquarters of US Army Central
Ali Al Salem Air Base, located about 40 km from the Iraq border and known as “The Rock” due to its harsh terrain
Camp Buehring, established during the 2003 Iraq War and now a major transit hub for US troops moving to Iraq and Syria
Nearly 140 US Troops Injured Across Region
Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh told CBS that around 140 US troops have been injured across various Middle Eastern bases in the 11 days since the conflict began.
The rising casualty numbers highlight the intensity of Iran’s attacks and the growing risks facing US forces stationed throughout the region as the conflict continues to escalate.
