PM Tarique Rahman Vows to Stand United Against Any Conspiracy Targeting Bangladesh

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday said his government would remain united with the people against any conspiracy aimed at undermining the country or its national interests. His remarks came in a message marking National Martyred Army Day, observed in memory of the 74 people including 57 army officers killed in the 2009 Pilkhana massacre at the then‑BDR headquarters.

Rahman noted that the day had not been observed with due importance since 2009, but following what he described as the country’s liberation from fascism in 2024, the government has reinstated it as a national day of remembrance.

“On this solemn occasion, we pray for the forgiveness of the martyred soldiers and express our deepest sympathy and solidarity with their bereaved family members,” he said.

The prime minister said the trial related to the Pilkhana massacre remains ongoing and, as the matter is sub judice, he would refrain from detailed comment. However, he stressed that the public must recognise that forces hostile to Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty were behind the killings.

Rahman also alleged that attempts were made to mislead the nation through misinformation in the aftermath of the massacre. In what he called a “fascism‑free Bangladesh,” he said the underlying causes of the tragedy have now become clearer to the people.
