Alisa Camplin‑Warner says Australia’s record‑breaking performance at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics should finally put to rest any doubts about the value of investing in winter sports. With six medals three gold, two silver and a bronze Australia has delivered its best Winter Games campaign in history, surpassing the previous high of four medals in Beijing.
Speaking at the Games’ closing press conference in Livigno on Saturday, the Olympic champion said the results were even more remarkable given how little funding winter athletes receive compared to other sports. She described the team as operating on a “shoe‑string budget,” yet still producing world‑class performances.
“We’ve probably been, in winter sport, disproportionately funded,” Camplin‑Warner said. “Even though we’re very grateful for the ongoing funding we’ve had, I think there’s just a real opportunity to equalise that a little.”
She believes the latest success proves Australia can reach even greater heights with proper investment. “We can get to the next level and there’ll just be more Australians that can chase that dream,” she said.
