A heated confrontation broke out on Saturday afternoon inside the Election Commission auditorium as appeal hearings for parliamentary candidates took an unexpected turn. What was meant to be a routine break suddenly escalated into loud arguments, forcing law enforcement officers to intervene and restore order.
The dispute began during the hearing on the dual citizenship appeal involving Afroza Khanom, the valid candidate for Manikganj 3. Lawyers representing both sides gathered and quickly became embroiled in a sharp exchange. The argument intensified within moments, creating a chaotic atmosphere.
The situation grew even more volatile when Abdul Awal Mintoo, the BNP candidate for Feni 3 whose nomination was rejected over similar dual citizenship allegations, arrived at the venue. His frustration and vocal objections added fuel to the already tense environment.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has upheld its decision to cancel the nomination of BNP candidate Manjurul Ahsan Munshi in Cumilla 4. After reviewing documents and allegations of loan default, the Commission confirmed the cancellation during a hearing held at 4 pm in the Basement 2 auditorium of the Election Commission building in Agargaon.
Officials stated that all relevant records were examined before maintaining the decision to reject his candidacy.
