Trump Says Iranians Are “Moving Toward Freedom” as Fresh Protests Erupt Across Cities

1 min read

US President Donald Trump has said the people of Iran are “moving toward freedom” and that the United States is prepared to support them as nationwide anti‑government protests enter their fourteenth day. In a message posted on social media, he said Iranians are expressing a desire for freedom “unlike anything seen before.”

After two consecutive nights of unrest, new gatherings began again on Saturday night in Tehran and several other cities. Videos published by London‑based Iran‑focused media outlets showed hundreds of protesters rallying in Tehran’s Heravi district, chanting anti‑government slogans. Similar scenes were reported in Chitgar, in the eastern part of the capital.

Protesters were heard chanting against the deposed and exiled Shah monarchy, as well as slogans such as “Not Gaza, not Lebanon my life for Iran,” reflecting anger over the government’s foreign policy priorities. The scale and spread of the demonstrations suggest that Iran’s internal political crisis is deepening rapidly.
