Warnbro Station Closed as Bushfire Threatens Perth’s Southern Suburbs

Warnbro Station and a significant section of the Mandurah train line have been closed as firefighters battle a fast‑moving bushfire in Perth’s south.

Authorities say the out‑of‑control blaze poses a possible threat to lives and homes in parts of Cooloongup, Waikiki, and Warnbro within the City of Rockingham, around 60 kilometres south of central Perth.

Around 100 firefighters are working in difficult conditions, with strong winds and the presence of unexploded ordnance in the area complicating containment efforts.

Dramatic footage captured by a bus passenger showed flames surrounding Warnbro Station on Monday night. Despite the intensity of the fire, authorities confirmed the station was not damaged, and no injuries were reported.

Train services on the Mandurah line have been cancelled between Rockingham and Mandurah, and Warnbro Station remains closed.

DFES spokesperson Rachael Robertson said the station narrowly avoided damage. “Luckily nobody was injured. That was a result of quick reaction from the public in reporting it and rapid response by fire crews,” she said.

Robertson added that crews worked through the night to strengthen containment lines, with access made especially difficult due to unexploded ordnance in the vicinity.
