Somalia’s Al‑Qaeda‑linked militant group Al‑Shabab has vowed to resist any attempt by Israel to claim or use territory in Somaliland after Israel formally recognized the breakaway region as a sovereign state.
In a statement released Saturday, the group declared it would not tolerate such moves, saying, “We will not accept it, and we will fight against it.”
Al‑Shabab claimed Israel’s recognition signaled an effort to expand into Somali territory and support what it described as the administration in Somaliland’s northwest regions. The group framed the development as a direct threat to Somalia’s territorial integrity.
