England have suffered a major setback in the Ashes after veteran fast bowler Mark Wood was ruled out of the remainder of the series due to a left knee injury sustained during the first Test in Perth.
Wood missed the second Test in Brisbane, where England fell behind 2-0 in the five-match series. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed in a statement that his Ashes campaign is over.
Replacement Named
Young pacer Matthew Fisher has been called up as Wood’s replacement for the remaining three Tests.
Missed Opportunities
England’s management had hoped Wood might recover in time for the Melbourne and Sydney Tests after his chances of playing in Adelaide were slim. However, medical assessments ruled him out completely.
Wood’s Ashes Record
The loss is significant given Wood’s strong record against Australia:
12 Ashes Tests: 41 wickets
On Australian soil: 17 wickets in 5 matches
His absence leaves England struggling to find firepower in their bowling attack as they attempt to fight back in the series.
