Nationwide Passport System Outage Causes Delays at Australian Airports

1 min read

International travellers faced major delays across Australia on Sunday after a nationwide passport processing system outage disrupted operations at airports.

The issue led to long queues at Melbourne and Sydney airports, where inbound and outbound passengers were forced to wait as Australian Border Force (ABF) officers processed documents manually.

By the afternoon, the system was restored and queues cleared, easing concerns of prolonged disruption.

In a statement, an ABF spokesperson confirmed the cause of the technical malfunction was still under investigation. “We wish to thank travellers for their patience during this time,” the spokesperson said.

The outage highlighted vulnerabilities in Australia’s border control systems, though officials stressed that safety and security were maintained throughout the disruption.
