Thailand Floods Kill 162, Millions Affected

At least 162 people have died in devastating floods caused by continuous heavy rainfall across Thailand in recent days, with millions facing widespread damage and displacement.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on Saturday ordered emergency relief and rehabilitation operations in the worst-hit areas. Government spokesman Siripong Angkasakulkiat confirmed fatalities across eight provinces, with Songkhla province suffering the highest toll at 126 deaths.

The disaster has sparked sharp criticism of the government’s flood management. Visiting affected regions, Anutin admitted shortcomings and personally apologized to residents.

Thailand’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported that water levels have begun to recede in several provinces since Saturday morning. Video footage showed locals returning to homes submerged for days, finding furniture and personal belongings scattered and damaged.

The floods, which began late last week, have paralyzed large parts of the country leaving thousands trapped, roads impassable, and low-lying buildings and vehicles underwater.
