Devastating Fire Destroys Over 100 Homes in Dhaka’s Korail Slum, Women and Children Left Homeless

1 min read

A massive blaze tore through Korail slum, reducing more than 100 homes to ashes and leaving hundreds of residents, including women and children, without shelter.

The fire raged for nearly five hours before being fully brought under control at 10:35 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Fire Service. Nineteen units worked tirelessly to contain the flames, facing difficulties due to the congested area and lack of water supply. Local residents also joined efforts to battle the inferno.

As the smoke cleared, the scale of destruction became evident. Families have lost all their belongings, with many now living under the open sky. Most displaced residents have taken refuge at Khamarbari field, struggling without food, clean water, or proper shelter.

Witnesses described heartbreaking scenes: exhausted parents resting wherever they could after rescue efforts, while children slept in damp clothes under the night sky. Many victims lamented that newly purchased household items were completely destroyed.

Authorities confirmed no casualties, but the fire has plunged countless families into crisis, highlighting the vulnerability of Dhaka’s largest slum community.
