Just a day after the United States issued a warning about security risks in Venezuelan airspace, several international airlines have suspended flights to and from Caracas. At the same time, Washington has hinted at preparations for a new type of operation involving Venezuela, according to a report by TRT World.
Flight-tracking site Flightradar24 and the official website of Simón Bolívar International Airport (Maiquetía) confirmed that on Saturday, airlines including Brazil’s Gol, Colombia’s Avianca, Chile’s LATAM, Trinidad and Tobago’s Caribbean Airlines, and TAP Air Portugal canceled scheduled flights from Caracas.
Colombia’s aviation regulator Aeronautica Civil issued a statement citing the deteriorating security situation around Maiquetía and increased military activity as creating a “potential risk” for flight operations. TAP Air Portugal also confirmed cancellations for Saturday and the upcoming Tuesday, telling Reuters that U.S. aviation authorities had concluded Venezuela’s airspace could not be guaranteed safe.
The cancellations underscore growing international concern over Venezuela’s stability, with airlines and governments taking precautionary measures as tensions escalate.
