Thirteen army officers have been brought before the International Crimes Tribunal in connection with two separate cases alleging crimes against humanity, including abduction and torture of individuals with opposing political views at the TFI-JIC cell. Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is among a total of 30 accused in the cases.
On Sunday morning at 10am, police transported the officers to the tribunal under tight security in prison vans. They were then taken one by one into custody.
The hearing is being conducted by a three-member judicial panel led by Tribunal-1 Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Mojumdar. Discussions are expected to include reports on the execution of arrest warrants and the appointment of state defense lawyers for absconding defendants.
Since early morning, security has been significantly heightened around the tribunal and the Supreme Court premises. Personnel from the police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have been deployed. Officials stated they are prepared to handle any situation.
The appearance of the army officers has created an atmosphere of tension, with strict security measures in place across the tribunal area.
