Greene Resigns from Congress, Criticises Trump Amid Feud Over Future Ambitions

2 min read

Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene announced her resignation from the House of Representatives in a video statement, listing her achievements while sharply criticising President Donald Trump, who had threatened to back a Republican challenger against her in next year’s election.

“I have too much self-respect and dignity, love my family way too much, and do not want my sweet district to have to endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the President we all fought for,” Greene said, adding that Republicans risk losing the midterms.

While stepping down from Congress, U.S. media reports suggest Greene is considering a run for Georgia governor or a Senate seat. Trump has publicly dismissed those ambitions, writing on Truth Social that he previously advised her not to pursue either office due to poor polling numbers.

From Allies to Rivals

  • Greene had long been a staunch ally of Trump, championing his “America First” agenda.
  • Their relationship soured after Greene supported a petition to release all U.S. government files related to Jeffrey Epstein.
  • Trump initially opposed the measure but later reversed course, urging Republicans to back it once Greene and others joined Democrats in support.

Greene’s departure marks a dramatic shift in Republican politics, highlighting growing divisions within the party as it heads toward the next election cycle.
