Bangladesh’s veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim celebrated his 100th Test match in the most fitting way possible by scoring a century and etching his name among cricket’s legends.

On Wednesday, Mushfiqur left the field unbeaten on 99 runs. Returning on Thursday at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur against Ireland in the second Test of the series, he became the first Bangladeshi cricketer to score a century in his 100th Test. The milestone also tied him with former captain Mominul Haque for the most Test centuries by a Bangladeshi player, with both now holding 13 centuries.

  • Mushfiqur is now one of only 84 cricketers worldwide to have played 100 or more Tests.
  • He is the 11th player in history to score a century in his 100th Test.
  • Among wicketkeepers, only eight globally have reached the 100-Test mark, placing Mushfiqur in rare company.

Other greats who achieved centuries in their 100th Test include Colin Cowdrey, Javed Miandad, Gordon Greenidge, Alec Stewart, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Ricky Ponting, Graeme Smith, Hashim Amla, Joe Root, and David Warner. Notably, Warner and Root both scored double centuries in their milestone matches.

At 38, Mushfiqur has the chance to add another record in the second innings. So far, only Ricky Ponting has scored centuries in both innings of his 100th Test a feat Mushfiqur could still match.

This achievement not only highlights Mushfiqur’s consistency and resilience but also writes a new chapter in Bangladesh’s Test cricket history, celebrated by fans and teammates alike.
