2 min read

Afghanistan completed a commanding 3-0 series sweep over Bangladesh with a crushing 200-run victory in the third and final ODI at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, underlining their growing dominance in the 50-over format.

Afghanistan set the tone with a strong batting display, posting 293 for 9 in their 50 overs. Openers Ibrahim Zadran (95) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (42 off 41) laid the foundation with a 99-run stand. After a brief wobble in the middle order, veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi unleashed a blistering 62 off 37 balls, smashing four sixes and six fours to propel the hosts to a formidable total. His late fireworks added 44 runs in the final two overs, ensuring Afghanistan finished with momentum.

Bangladesh’s bowlers struggled for consistency, though Saif Hassan impressed with 3 for 49. Pacer Nahid Rana left the field injured during his final spell, further denting the visitors’ attack.

In reply, Bangladesh’s batting collapsed in dramatic fashion. Chasing 294, they were bundled out for just 93 in 27.1 overs, suffering one of their heaviest ODI defeats in recent years. Only Saif Hassan showed resistance with a fighting 43 off 54 balls, while the rest of the lineup crumbled.

Afghanistan’s bowlers were ruthless. Young pacer Bilal Sami, playing only his second ODI, delivered a sensational spell to claim his maiden five-wicket haul, finishing with 5 for 27. Spin maestro Rashid Khan tore through the middle order with 3 for 24, including three wickets in his first three overs. Bangladesh’s batting order offered little fight, with only Hasan Mahmud (9) joining Hassan in reaching double figures.

The emphatic win not only secured Afghanistan’s first-ever 3-0 ODI series sweep over Bangladesh but also mirrored Bangladesh’s own 3-0 triumph in the preceding T20I series, highlighting the contrasting fortunes of the two sides across formats.
