A massive protest rally began at the northern gate of Baitul Mukarram in Dhaka, led by the Islamic Movement Bangladesh. The demonstration took place on Friday, July 18, organized by the organization’s Dhaka North and South branches. Prior to the rally, a gathering was held at the same venue, where leaders voiced key demands.
During the assembly, Maulana Yunus Ahmad, General Secretary of the organization, expressed concern over the ongoing rise in terrorism, extortion, and deteriorating law and order in the country. He emphasized the need for strict action by the government to curb these crimes. Additionally, he called attention to the United Nations Human Rights Office’s initiatives, urging retracement of such decisions, warning, “There is still time; withdraw these decisions, or we will announce strong measures.”
Maulana Imtiyaz Alam, the organization’s assistant secretary, criticized the UN’s lack of effective action in Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kashmir. He stated, “The UN has been unable to take any effective steps in Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kashmir. Therefore, Bangladesh does not need their human rights commission.”
Through the protest, the organization has expressed deep concern over the country’s current situation. They called on the government to ensure security and safety and demanded the suspension of international organizations’ activities. This protest is viewed as a significant effort to maintain peace and stability in the nation’s politics and society.
