A total of 475 individuals face charges related to vandalism, arson, and assaults on police during the recent NCP rally in Gopalganj Sadar upazila. The lawsuit was filed on Friday by Inspector Ali Ahmed at the Sadar Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act, naming 75 identified suspects and 400 others whose identities remain unknown, according to Officer-in-Charge Mir Sajedur Rahman.
So far, more than 50 people have been detained, and multiple police teams are actively investigating the incident.
The clashes on Wednesday resulted in four deaths and dozens of injuries as supporters of the Awami League and Chhatra League clashed with law enforcement officers. An additional individual succumbed to injuries sustained during the violence while receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Friday.
In response to the escalating violence, authorities initially imposed Section 144 in Sadar upazila, later extending it to a 22-hour curfew starting at 8 p.m. on Wednesday. As the curfew neared its end on Thursday, the government extended it further until the situation stabilizes, allowing a three-hour break from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday.
