Russian Air Defenses Shoot Down 73 Ukrainian Drones Overnight

1 min read

Russian air defenses intercepted and destroyed 73 Ukrainian drones during the overnight hours, according to the country’s defense ministry. Among these, three drones were reportedly headed toward Moscow itself.

Most of the drones were shot down over Russia’s southwestern regions, including 31 over the Bryansk region, which borders Ukraine. The ministry shared this information via a messaging app.

Moscow’s mayor provided an update, stating that emergency services were inspecting areas where drone debris had fallen but did not report any casualties or damage. Meanwhile, the federal aviation authority temporarily suspended operations at two airports near the capital, Domodedovo and Zhukovsky. Flights resumed later in the day. Operations at a third Moscow airport, Vnukovo, were also halted after midnight but were back in service by morning.

Ukraine has not issued an immediate response to the drone attacks. Kyiv maintains that its strikes inside Russian territory are aimed at destroying infrastructure critical to Moscow’s ongoing military efforts in Ukraine, which is now in its fourth year.
