World Vision Australia CEO Challenges Termination Amid Workplace Claims

2 min read

Daniel Wordsworth, the CEO of World Vision Australia, has taken his former organization to the Fair Work Commission after being informed that his tenure had ended amid claims of a toxic workplace environment. The charity said it had concluded its decision to not extend his contract, but Wordsworth disputes the circumstances of his departure.

He was confirmed to be the subject of bullying complaints, which were independently investigated by World Vision. The investigation found no grounds to substantiate the allegations, although one complaint remains under review.

According to a source within World Vision, employees, both past and present, were given the opportunity to contribute to the external investigation into the bullying claims. Despite the investigation’s findings, the organization’s board chair, Peter Trent, informed staff on Wednesday evening that Wordsworth would be leaving the organization he has led since March 2021.

The email stated, “CEO Daniel Wordsworth will end his tenure at World Vision Australia. The Board has decided not to extend his contract and will seek new leadership for the organization.”

It also highlighted Wordsworth’s contributions, noting he guided the organization through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and responded to various humanitarian crises, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The board is now beginning the process of searching for a new CEO.
