Students Stage Protest at Rajshahi University Demanding Reforms

2 min read

Students at Rajshahi University gathered outside the administration building on Sunday, demanding urgent reforms through a nine-point charter. The protest, organized under the banner of the RU Reform Movement, began in the morning with students marching through dormitories and academic areas before assembling in front of the administrative office.

The sit-in is ongoing, with protesters pledging to continue until their demands are addressed. Salah Uddin Ammar, a key organizer, outlined the nine demands, which include establishing a clear plan for full residential facilities, implementing anonymous exam evaluations with script challenges, ensuring 24-hour campus security, upgrading the medical center to a 50-bed facility, digitizing administrative processes, subsidizing food quality in hall dining halls, modernizing the Central Library’s infrastructure and technology, making the Teacher-Student Support Centre fully operational, and announcing the schedule for the long-awaited RU Central Students’ Union elections.

Ammar emphasized the fairness and urgency of these demands, stating, “They only require sincere administrative will and prompt action. If these demands are not met soon, we will escalate our protests.”

Former movement coordinator Mehedi Sajib expressed his support, saying, “I have always supported such initiatives and stand with this movement. Collective effort can elevate Rajshahi University. I urge the administration to take these demands seriously and act swiftly.”
