Israel-Iran Tensions Escalate as New Khaybar Missile Reported

2 min read

The Middle East’s unrest continues to intensify as Israel claims it has launched a strike targeting a fighter jet in central Iran. According to reports, Israeli forces targeted three Iranian F-14 fighter jets during the operation. Al Jazeera reports that this attack also involved strikes on infrastructure in Iran’s central region.

Israeli officials describe the operation as a “preventive measure,” but the rising hostility shows no signs of easing. Iran has yet to issue an official response to the Israeli strikes.

Meanwhile, Iran has announced it has used the Khaybar missile against Israel. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a statement confirming that they have, for the first time, employed the Khaybar missile. This missile has a range of 2,000 kilometers, can carry a 1,500-kilogram warhead, and is among the heaviest medium-range missiles in their arsenal.

The Khaybar missile is liquid-fueled and can be controlled mid-flight. It travels at an estimated Mach 16 outside the atmosphere, roughly 16 times the speed of sound. Its speed inside the atmosphere is around Mach 8, making it extremely difficult for conventional air defense systems to intercept. This modern technology allows for highly precise strikes on targets.

From a technical perspective, the missile’s accuracy and destructive power make it a formidable threat, challenging existing air defense capabilities. The escalating tensions in the Middle East suggest the region is becoming even more volatile, with the prospects for peace appearing increasingly distant.
