In a significant victory for director-actor Justin Baldoni and his legal team, a judge has ruled that Baldoni’s production company, Wayfarer Studios, can obtain access to messages exchanged between Blake Lively and Taylor Swift that may be relevant to ongoing lawsuits.
The ruling brings pop star Taylor Swift into the legal drama involving Baldoni’s film It Ends With Us, as court documents obtained by TMZ reveal. The judge’s decision allows the discovery of communications between Lively and Swift that could potentially shed light on claims of harassment and retaliation made by Lively.
As reported by Deadline, Judge Liman explained that because Lively has indicated Swift was aware of discussions or complaints about the working environment on the film, the messages between them are “reasonably tailored” to help determine whether Lively’s allegations are substantiated.
Blake Lively had previously requested the court to block access to her private communications with Swift, arguing that the request was an attempt to leverage her friendship with the pop star to influence the case outside of court. However, the judge dismissed this argument, stating that Lively had not demonstrated the information was irrelevant or that producing the messages would be unduly burdensome. The judge also noted that claims of media dramatization by Baldoni’s team did not justify denying access to the documents.
This development marks a major step in the legal proceedings, potentially impacting the case’s outcome as more high-profile figures become entangled in the dispute.
