Bangladesh Meteorological Department Warns of Heavy Rain and Issues Caution at Seaports

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of the country and has advised four major seaports Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra to raise local cautionary signal No. 3.

A low-pressure area has developed over southwestern Bangladesh and the surrounding region, the department reported.

“Due to active monsoon conditions, thunderclouds are forming, and a steep pressure gradient lies over the North Bay. As a result, heavy to very heavy downpours accompanied by gusty or squally winds are expected to sweep across the northern Bay, neighboring coastal areas, and the maritime ports,” the BMD stated.

All fishing boats and trawlers operating in the northern Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.

The weather forecast also predicts light to moderate rain and thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds at most places across Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, with many areas experiencing moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall. Similar conditions are expected in Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions.
