Amid escalating political tensions, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has invited the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) for a meeting at the State Guesthouse Jamuna scheduled for 8:00 pm on Saturday. However, BNP has yet to confirm whether they will participate.
BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed revealed on Friday that the party received the invitation but would decide later on their attendance. The move indicates an effort to engage major political stakeholders amid ongoing calls for a dialogue to forge an inclusive path toward upcoming national elections.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Adviser’s Office also verbally approved a separate request from Jamaat-e-Islami chief Dr. Shafiqur Rahman for a meeting with Yunus, set for 7:00 pm at the same venue.
Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Amir, Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, said their party leader sought the meeting to discuss what he described as the country’s “rapidly deteriorating political scenario.”
These back-to-back meetings highlight renewed efforts by the interim government to engage top political parties as pressure mounts for a consensus-based roadmap for the upcoming elections, emphasizing the importance of dialogue in stabilizing the nation’s political landscape.
