The High Court has scheduled Wednesday to deliver its judgment on a petition challenging the Election Commission’s decision to declare BNP leader Ishraque Hossain as the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation. The announcement comes after a hearing on the writ petition filed against the election result.

The bench, comprising Justice Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury, fixed the date following the proceedings. Senior Advocate Mohammad Hossain represented the petitioner, while Advocate AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon and Barrister Kaisar Kamal defended Ishraque Hossain. The state was represented by Deputy Attorney General Mahfuzur Rahman Milon.

The petition was initially filed on May 13, requesting the court to prevent Ishraque from taking the oath as mayor. It also demanded action against the Dhaka First Joint District Judge and Election Tribunal for allegedly issuing a fraudulent judgment that declared Ishraque Hossain as the winner.

The petitioner, Md Mamunur Rashid, a resident of Dhaka South City Corporation, filed the writ in the relevant branch of the High Court, prompting the upcoming verdict that could impact the mayoral appointment.
