A 48-year-old man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for the sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl in a dilapidated motel in rural Western Australia. This story contains distressing details and viewer discretion is advised.
Chad James Broad was with two other men when he attacked the young girl at the Batavia Motor Inn in March 2023. The girl, who had run away from home, was met by Broad and the others at Geraldton’s foreshore before the assault occurred.
Broad was subsequently arrested and charged with sexually assaulting and indecently dealing with a child under the age of 13. During the sentencing hearing at the Geraldton District Court on Monday, it was revealed that Broad’s actions took place in the context of a disturbing group incident.
The court also heard that Broad was with George Edward Albert Windie, 42, who was sentenced last year for indecent dealings related to the same case, as well as a third man who has not been identified.
The court emphasized the severity of the crime, and the judge sentenced Broad to seven years, reflecting the gravity of his actions and the need to protect minors from such heinous offenses.
