Tragedy struck in Victoria’s Hepburn Shire just before midday as a two-vehicle collision claimed two lives and left another person seriously injured. The incident occurred on the Midland Highway in Eganstown, approximately 7 kilometers from the popular tourist town of Daylesford.
Police confirmed that the deaths are the seventh and eighth fatalities on Victorian roads since Saturday, marking a devastating start to the week. The two occupants of one vehicle, whose identities have not yet been disclosed, died at the scene of the crash. Meanwhile, the driver of the second vehicle was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
The exact cause of the collision remains unclear as investigations are underway. The crash in Eganstown follows a series of tragic incidents over the past three days that have resulted in six fatalities across Victoria.
In a separate incident on Mother’s Day, a 49-year-old woman from Dandenong North died after a crash near Trafalgar in eastern Victoria. Her husband and two children were seriously injured and taken to hospital after the collision at the intersection of North Canal Road and Willow Grove Road around 5:55 pm. Police believe her husband failed to stop at a stop sign, resulting in a collision with another vehicle.
