In a significant escalation of tensions, India launched missile strikes across various locations in Azad Kashmir during the early hours of Wednesday, May 7. Reports confirm that at least three people have been killed in the attacks, including a child, and twelve others have been injured.
Shortly after the Indian missile strikes, Pakistan announced that it was retaliating with counterattacks. Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), told Geo TV that “the response from Pakistan is underway both in the air and on the ground.”
According to Pakistan’s government TV channel PTV and verified by security officials on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Pakistan’s armed forces are actively conducting retaliatory operations against Indian targets.
Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif told ARY News that India had targeted civilian areas, accusing New Delhi of conducting “cowardly” attacks from within its own airspace. Asif stated, “They launched attacks on civilian areas. They have not left their own airspace. Let them come out into the open. We will give an appropriate response.”
In response, the Indian armed forces issued a statement confirming that in an operation named ‘Operation Sindoor,’ they targeted nine locations across Pakistan. India claims that the strikes were aimed at military infrastructure and the Pakistani military’s facilities, asserting that the operation was conducted to neutralize threats in the region.
The recent exchanges mark a dangerous escalation in the ongoing conflict between India and Pakistan, highlighting the fragile security situation in the region. Both sides have issued stern warnings, and international observers are closely monitoring the developments as tensions threaten to spiral further.
