Streamlined Visa Processing for Bangladeshis: A New Initiative from the Australian High Commission

2 min read

In a significant development for Bangladeshi citizens, the Australian High Commission in Dhaka is set to launch a streamlined visa processing system. This announcement was confirmed by Australia’s Home Affairs Minister, Tony Burke, during a recent phone conversation with Bangladesh’s National Security Advisor, Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

At a meeting of the Advisory Council held on March 20, the National Security Advisor highlighted the importance of this decision, stating, “This initiative will simplify the visa application process for Bangladeshi citizens, saving time and effort.” Effective immediately, this new system allows Bangladeshi nationals to apply for visas directly from Dhaka.

The request for this initiative was made by Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus during Minister Burke’s visit to Bangladesh in October of last year. Since then, efforts have been underway to strengthen the collaborative relationship between the two countries. By providing this facility, the Australian government acknowledges Bangladesh as a key partner.

Previously, visa processing for Bangladeshi citizens relied heavily on New Delhi, creating delays and complications. This new decision promises to expedite and simplify the process, particularly for those wishing to study, work, or join family in Australia.

Experts believe this move will deepen the ties between Bangladesh and Australia, fostering opportunities for commercial and cultural exchange. The number of Bangladeshi students in Australian institutions is on the rise, and this new visa process will pave the way for even more students to pursue their education abroad.

Overall, the start of visa processing for Bangladeshi citizens in Dhaka marks a new chapter in the relationship between the two nations. It is anticipated that this initiative will enhance friendly relations and create further avenues for collaboration in the future.
