Sudan’s Saudi Hospital struck in drone attack, at least 70 killed

In a harrowing escalation of violence in North Darfur, the governor of the region, Mini Minnawi, took to social media to reveal a tragic incident involving a drone strike by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The attack targeted the emergency department of a local hospital, resulting in the deaths of several patients, including vulnerable women and children.

Since the outbreak of conflict in April 2023, the Sudanese army has been engaged in a brutal war against the RSF, which has effectively taken control of much of Darfur’s vast landscape. Tensions reached a boiling point last week when the RSF issued an ultimatum for army forces and their allies to vacate the city by Wednesday afternoon, signaling an impending offensive.

Local activists have reported ongoing clashes, with the RSF unleashing artillery fire upon the famine-stricken Abu Shouk displacement camp. Tragically, just on Friday morning, heavy shelling claimed the lives of eight individuals, as confirmed by the Darfur General Coordination of Camps for the Displaced and Refugees. The situation remains dire, as the conflict continues to wreak havoc on an already beleaguered population.
