In a heartbreaking turn of events, a newlywed from Adelaide faced unimaginable tragedy during her honeymoon in Bali after her husband was swept out to sea.
Jacob Vennix, 32, was enjoying a swim with his wife, Kimberley Fuller, 38, at Pasut Beach, located about 30 kilometers from Denpasar, when disaster struck on Monday afternoon. Around 3:50 PM, the couple found themselves caught in treacherous waters, where churning currents converged.
In a frantic bid for help, Fuller pleaded with local fishermen, and a nearby resident bravely launched a boat to rescue Vennix. However, the boat capsized amidst the rough seas, complicating the rescue efforts.
Eventually, a wave brought an unconscious Vennix back to shore, where Fuller immediately began CPR in a desperate attempt to revive him. Tragically, despite her efforts, he did not regain consciousness. He was rushed to Tabanan Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
I Gusti Made Berata, a spokesman for Tabanan Police, explained that the area where the couple was swimming is known for its dangerous currents, describing it as a “meeting point” for water flows from different directions. “They were swimming in the estuary area, right in front of the entry access into Pasut Beach,” Berata noted.
The couple had joyfully shared news of their wedding on social media just weeks earlier, making this tragedy all the more poignant. As Fuller grapples with the loss of her husband, the community mourns alongside her, reflecting on the fragility of life and the deep bonds of love that can be forever altered in an instant.
