Police have arrested 26-year-old Luigi Nicholas Mangione in connection with the bold murder of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO, Brian Thompson. The breakthrough came when a vigilant McDonald’s employee in Pennsylvania alerted authorities about a suspicious customer with a gun, mask, and incriminating writings.
Mangione was found with a 3D-printed pistol believed to be the murder weapon. He was wearing similar clothing to the shooter and had a fake New Jersey ID linked to a New York hostel where he stayed before the crime. Investigators uncovered a handwritten document expressing anger toward corporate America, aligning with theories about his motives.
Thompson was shot last Wednesday while walking to a hotel for a UnitedHealth Group conference. The incident has raised security concerns within the health insurance industry. UnitedHealth Group expressed gratitude to law enforcement, hoping Mangione’s arrest brings some relief to Thompson’s family and colleagues. The FBI is also involved, offering a reward for information leading to the suspect’s identification before his capture.
