Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam emphasized the importance of thorough investigations in cases filed after August 5, directing field-level officers to ensure that innocent individuals are not unjustly harassed.

During a meeting focused on the nation’s law and order at police headquarters in Dhaka on Saturday, the IGP reiterated that steps should be taken to withdraw any cases against innocent persons through appropriate legal channels.

Chaired by Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Md Rezaul Karim, the meeting brought together metropolitan police commissioners, Range DIGs, and superintendents of police to discuss strategies for enhancing morale within the force. IGP Baharul stressed the need for regular communication between police leaders and officers to foster a supportive environment, asserting that no officer should face undue victimization.

Highlighting the significance of community engagement, Baharul urged officers to strengthen public relations by actively listening to community concerns and taking necessary legal actions. He acknowledged the high public expectations in the current climate, reminding officers that patience and composure are essential in handling any unexpected situations that may arise.

The meeting also called for intensified efforts to recover looted weapons, underscoring the police’s commitment to public safety. Commissioners from all metropolitan police units, along with Range DIGs and district-level superintendents, attended the meeting virtually, alongside senior officials from the police headquarters.
