A devastating fire tore through a cooking oil factory on the outskirts of Jakarta, Indonesia, claiming the lives of eight people, with several others injured.
The blaze erupted in an industrial complex in Bekasi, just east of Jakarta, sending towering flames and plumes of thick black smoke into the air, as seen in footage broadcast by Metro TV.
Firefighters dispatched around 20 trucks to the scene, successfully containing much of the fire, though nearby roads were closed as a safety measure. All victims have been evacuated, according to Suhartono, head of Bekasi’s fire department, who warned that the casualty count may still rise as investigations continue. Authorities are now working to determine what sparked the fire at PT Primus Sanus Cooking Oil Industrial, locally known as Priscolin.
